While some types of gingivitis can be caused by hormones, the majority of gingivitis is usually the result of plaque buildup. Plaque buildup occurs when food and other debris are not removed from your mouth immediately. If you allow these contaminants to sit in your mouth for extended periods of time, then they will turn into plaque and eventually tartar.
Acute gingivitis is considered one of the early forms of gingivitis. During this stage, you may notice bleeding around your gum line each time you apply pressure in this area. Since acute gingivitis is mild it can be reversed with a solid oral care routine. Luckily, there are a few natural rinses that you can use in order to do this.
Niaouli Oil Rinse
Niaouli oil is considered to be similar to tea tree oil because of its antiseptic and antibacterial properties. As a result, the herb is often used to treat dental infections and fight off colds. Therefore, you can use the oil to help clean your teeth and gums. Start by boiling a small pot of water on the stove. Once the water boils, add five drops of niaouli oil to the water. Turn the heat off and wait for the mixture to cool. Maneuver the rinse throughout your gum line and in between your teeth. Keep your gums soaked in the rinse for at least a minute before you spit it out. Remember to use this rinse immediately after eating in order to prevent buildup.
Parsley Rinse
Parsley is a staple in medicinal remedies. Its antibacterial properties make it a go-to herb if you need to treat internal and external bacteria. Parsley is often eaten fresh but it can also be turned into a homemade rinse. Start by taking a handful of fresh parsley and soaking it in a bowl of hot water. Leave the parsley to steep for a few hours. You should be able to smell the light aroma of the parsley once you get within a few feet the mix. Use the mix to clean your entire mouth. Allow the rinse to sit in your mouth for a few minutes, then rinse with warm water. Use the parsley rinse in conjunction with the niaouli rinse in order to eliminate plaque and bacteria.
Acute gingivitis that is plaque induced can easily be reversed if it is caught early on. Therefore, use these rinses to help eliminate this form of gingivitis. If your acute gingivitis does not clear up, visit a dentist like Dr. James A. Dempsey.
